Join us for a day of fun, camaraderie, and charity at the 8th Annual Marty Aronow Golf Classic, taking place on October 10, 2024, at the beautiful Lakewood Country Club. Hosted by the Ocean County Business Association (OCBA), this annual event brings together local business leaders and community members for a day of golf with a purpose—raising crucial funds for CAREing for Children, a nonprofit organization that provides food and toys for families in need in Ocean County.
Supporting Families During the Holidays
Last year’s 7th Annual Marty Aronow Golf Classic was a tremendous success, with participants coming together not just to enjoy a day on the green, but to make a difference in the lives of families struggling to afford the basics—especially during the holiday season. The funds raised from this event directly support CAREing for Children’s mission, ensuring that families in Ocean County who are experiencing financial hardship receive high-quality toys and food for the holidays.
In a recap of last year’s event, Peter Schley, one of the organizers, emphasized that while the golf is fun, the true focus of the day is charity. “The golf is secondary; the charity is the primary,” he explained.
This year, as families continue to face rising costs for basic necessities like food, rent, and insurance, the need is greater than ever. Caring for Children works directly with local organizations and groups to make sure these donations reach the families who need them most.

A Day of Laughter, Networking, and Charity
While the main purpose is to raise funds for charity, the 8th Annual Marty Aronow Golf Classic promises to be a day filled with fun and laughter. Last year’s event saw many golfers—who, as the video recap humorously noted, were “professional business owners, not professional golfers”—face some challenging moments on the course. Whether it was shots landing in the sand trap or golfers shanking their swings, the lighthearted competition added to the spirit of the day.
Bill DeBernardis of Atlantic Printing and Design commented on the event’s welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, saying, “We’re having such a great time, a lot of laughs, a lot of fun.” The opportunity to network with fellow OCBA members and local business owners adds another layer of value to the day, allowing participants to connect over a shared goal of giving back.
Impact Beyond the Golf Course
It’s not about being a great golfer—it’s about being part of something bigger. We’re here to support the community, and that’s what matters.
Barbara Farley from Chap Construction echoed those sentiments, noting the positive impact that the funds raised have on local families. “The gratitude that comes from these families, when we pass along the food and toys, is overwhelming,” she said. “They don’t know what they’re going to do this holiday, and this event makes a real difference.”
How the Funds Are Used
The money raised from the golf outing goes toward purchasing food and high-quality toys that are then distributed to families in need through local agencies. The toys, carefully selected to help with childhood development, include educational puzzles and games that provide lasting value beyond the holiday season. The food donations also help families put meals on the table, easing the burden during one of the most financially stressful times of the year.
As one of the volunteers from last year mentioned, “We’re very grateful for the food donations because sometimes we can’t get some of the things that our clients want. This really helps supplement what’s missing.”
Sponsors, Volunteers, and Golfers: Thank You
None of this would be possible without the incredible support of the sponsors, volunteers, and golfers who make the Marty Aronow Golf Classic a success year after year. Your generosity allows Caring for Children to continue its vital work of supporting families who would otherwise go without during the holiday season.
We extend a special thank you to all who contributed to last year’s event, and we hope you will join us again in 2024. If you’re new to the OCBA or the Marty Aronow Golf Classic, this is the perfect opportunity to get involved in a meaningful cause while enjoying a day of friendly competition on one of Ocean County’s finest golf courses.
